Simple Screening Test for the Evaluation of Thyroid Function based on ¹³¹I-T₃Resin Sponge Uptake Test in Korean Children

Abstract
|

|
1311-T3 resin sponge uptake test is one of the newly developed thyroid function test It seems to-be the most rapid, accurate, simple and in vitro test among the various thyroid function tests. Healthy 51 children from newborn to adolescence were employed to be tested. Their results were also compared. with ´normal value of 19 healthly adults.
The following results were obtained;
1. 131I-T3 resin sponge uptake test seems to be the most available screening test as x index of thyroid function for newborn infants and children.
2. Uptake rate % o f cord blood (28.02.3) is same as the adult (29.92.4).
3. The value of newborn (36.02.5) is 20% higher than the adult ;It is thought to be due to, temporary hyperthyroidism.
4. But the higher t T3-uptake is return to the normal value from the 2nd week of life.
